What is the SRA?

• The Sundowner Residents Association is a registered non-profit Community Residents forum in the Sundowner area.  The association’s primary objective is to ensure the safety and security of the families and communities of Sundowner.

Which area is covered by the SRA?

• The area is bordered by Northumberland in the northwest, Puttick Road in the South, Drysdale road in the North East and extending along CR Swart to Anita Road in the South.

What benefits / services are offered by the SRA?

• The main Sundowner area has four access control booms manned on a 24/7 basis, and employs 14 security officers through a contracted security provider.
• A dedicated 24/7 Piranha Security reaction vehicle equipped with the latest technology and manned on a rotational basis by 10 dedicated reaction officers.  They patrol the area covering approximately 7,000 km within the suburb every month in order to prevent crime operations.
• Piranha security is currently contracted to the SRA to provide the above services.
• The SRA has over the years erected 2km of fencing, 4 boomed entrances and 5 guard houses with radio communication and ablution facilities
• Members enjoy full armed response service, monitoring of existing alarm systems, holiday patrols, assistance with other emergencies and discounted rates on alarm systems installed and maintained by Piranha security.
• The SRA employs one full-time and one part-time gardener and makes use of other contractors to ensure that the grass is kept short and that parks in the area are well maintained.
• The efforts of the SRA have resulted in a significant reduction in crime (see graph below), the neatness of the area has improved, which has contributed to a significant increase in value of houses in the area.
• Furthermore, there is no need to have a separate security contract with an external security company as ALL services are provided by Piranha Security, inclusive in the monthly levy. (However installation of alarm systems etc. will incur an additional cost, directly to Piranha Security – This amount has been discounted for Sundowner residents)

MISSION OF THE SRA: "TO CREATE A SOUGHT AFTER SUBURBTHAT IS SAFE, SECURE AND CRIME FREE"

The objectives of the Sundowner residents Association (SRA) are as follows:

• To assist the authorities in the maintenance of peace, security and the well being of all residents in the SRA neighbourhood.
• To carry out all legal measures deemed necessary to reduce crime and establish and maintain relative security procedures in accordance with the needs of the residents of the area.
• To work in close co-operation with the SAPS, CPF and any other body to achieve objectives.
• To assess the needs of our community and act thereon.
• To promote strong community spirit, co-operation and awareness.
• To suggest and promote improvements in policies and administration and to promote or oppose policy making or other regulations affecting SRA or any of its members or to contribute to the promotion or the opposing thereof.

The objectives of the SRA are restricted to crime prevention.

As members of a specific community we share common interests and are all affected by events within our borders. We can however make a difference to the safety, security and well being of our families if we work together to achieve common goals!

We hope that this web site would encourage a higher level of awareness amongst ourselves and enhance the contribution each of us can make to enhance the quality of life we deserve as a community.
